Paid Advertising: The Benefits to Your Business

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

A man creating a strategy for a paid ad campaign. It's a bird eye view of his desk with sheets and writing.
FlashBang Marketing's paid ads service - where strategic messaging meets precision targeting.

  • Paid ads can be directed at your target market and therefore provide an immediate boost to your businesses sales.

  • They return data about the behaviours and interests of your customers, allowing future campaigns to be further optimised.

  • In addition to sales, paid ads automatically increase brand awareness and, as a result, familiarity and trust within your market.

In this blog, I delve into the multifaceted realm of paid adverts, exploring how they not only drive immediate sales but also serve as invaluable tools for collecting data, enhancing brand awareness, and refining marketing strategies. The main ways paid adverts can benefit your business are:

1. Immediately Increase Sales

The primary goal for the majority of our clients looking to benefit their business via paid advertising, is to increase sales. Paid advertising provides businesses with immediate and measurable visibility to customers who are likely to buy.

Unlike organic methods, that may take time to gain traction, paid adverts allow companies to showcase their products or services prominently and swiftly, in the places where their customers frequent. A 2023 study by Statista suggests that your target market spend over 15% of their waking hours on social media; this makes it an excellent place to market your products or services to them.

Paid advertising is also particularly advantageous in capturing the attention of potential customers who are actively searching for similar offerings from your competitors, resulting in a higher probability of conversion in addition to gaining market share.

2. Efficient & Effective Selling

Paid adverts can be tailored to reach individuals based on demographics, interests, and online behaviours. Through platforms like Google Ads and various social media sites such as (LinkedIn & Facebook), you can precisely reach your businesses target audience, ensuring that marketing efforts (and costs) are directed quickly and effectively towards those most likely to convert. This makes it a very sensible way to spend (at least part of) your marketing budget.

For example, one of FlashBang Marketing's customers owns a Bakery. They previously employed a sales person to hand out leaflets in town centres within the surrounding area of the business, as well as perform other activities such as attending networking events. This worked well and provided a consistent stream of income. However, naturally, they were required to pay the employee a salary, purchase their uniform, print off the leaflets etc.

When they followed our advice to utilise paid advertising, their operating costs reduced dramatically. What was even better, is via the analytics that the paid adverts provided, they obtained information about the behaviours and interests of their target market that they simply couldn’t obtain via their sales representatives. As explained in point 4, this allowed them to make their sales process exponentially more effective.

3. Collect Valuable Data

As I mentioned above, there's more benefits to paid ads than what's on the surface; you will also obtain valuable data gathered by the platforms such as the demographic of who engages with your advert, their engagement patterns, and the performance of different content types. Delving into this information allows your business to gain profound insights into the heartbeat of your audience.

Imagine discovering a feature that resonates strongly with your audience. By tailoring your adverts to highlight this, you not only meet customer needs, but also showcase a deep understanding of their preferences. This can significantly boost engagement, fostering stronger connections and driving success.

The data-driven approach isn't just about numbers; it's about understanding the human element behind each click. Armed with this knowledge, marketers like us can craft campaigns that authentically resonate with your target demographic.

4. Trial & Improvement

Paid advertising stands out over other alternatives not just for its ability to reach a large number of targeted individuals, but for its remarkable adaptability allowing businesses to easily and quickly spot areas that are performing well and capitalise off this in future (online and offline) campaigns.

When it makes sense for our client and their specific product, FlashBang Marketing's advertising team will work with our in-house analysts to perform a split test (also known as an A/B test). This is where we create an advert, identify components of the advert which may positively or negatively affect the performance of the paid ads campaign, and then change them whilst keeping all other variables the same. This gives us two (or more) adverts which are very similar. We then see which of the adverts performs better, keep the better one and repeat the process. After a few iterations of this, we have a highly optimised advert which provides reproducible results.

Some variables we look at when performing an A/B test are:

The Message

With paid advertising, businesses have the freedom to craft messages that precisely align with their brand identity and audience preferences. Whether it's promoting a sale, showcasing a new product, or building brand awareness, the message can be customised for maximum impact.

Graphical Elements

The visual appeal of ads is equally important. Paid advertising platforms provide the flexibility to experiment with dynamic graphic elements, ensuring that visuals complement the message and capture audience attention effectively.

5. Enhance Your Brand Awareness

As you probably know by now, social media advertising allows you to position yourself in front of your target market and thus those who are most likely to buy from you, giving you a great chance of making sales. However, even if the viewers of you paid ad campaign don't buy straight away, the visual and textual elements of advertisements create a lasting impression, contributing to the establishment of brand recognition. Continuous exposure to your brand through paid advertising fosters familiarity and trust, making it more likely that consumers will remember and choose your brand when making purchasing decisions.

Let's look at our bakery client again. Whereas using their dedicated sales person meant, at best, potential customers may have heard about their business infrequently, the paid ads campaign placed them in front of their demographic on a continuous basis. This meant when their target market wanted a bakery service, they instantly thought of our client as they felt familiar. This shows how paid ads can produce results even after the campaign has ended.
